'People are fearful' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the squad everyone fears.

The evidence is unmistakable why Arsenal have become countless pundits' favorites to secure the Premier League during this term.

Consider their results against Newcastle and Crystal Palace compared to those equivalent matches in the previous campaign.

The Gunners have overcome all of them this time around, but dropped 10 points across those games as they faded in the title race last season.

Defensive Strength

Arsenal's defensive strength is a crucial element why they are seeming ready to ultimately achieve their title target.

They stand first for clean sheets (6), goals conceded (3), attempts against (72), quality opportunities against (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is possibly the strongest in the league, with Arsenal maintaining a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Expertise

Their danger from dead balls is widely recognized, but opposition teams still find it difficult to contain the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, a couple extra than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can perform multiple roles now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just wary of them and it is wonderful to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is particularly notable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City in their own stadium - and are still four points clear at the top.

While they keep winning, their historic competitors aren't faring so well. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The expectations was on boss Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having invested around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in quest of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the spending has so far proven successful in impressive fashion, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and having the most resilient defense, despite several injuries.

  • Shutouts in three consecutive Premier League games
  • 385 minutes without letting in a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across various contests

Former players and pundits have characterized Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking hard to stop" with the whole club now performing with belief and purpose.
